Why does the civil war in Syria receive so much attention compared to the wars happening in Central Africa?

It appears to me that the multiple civil wars currently taking place in Central Africa mainly the Central African Republic and the Congo receive almost no attention in terms of media compared to the war in syria. Does anyone know why? It can't be just plainly because of the casualties because the wars are far more deadly and far more complex than the war in syria.

Remoteness, both in distance and in culture?

Possibly but I have become of the opinion it is "western" civilizations inability to care unless it feels threatened. No one actually cares about the casualties otherwise they would care about Africa it is about the possibility that Islamic extremists could gain power after overthrowing AL-Assad.

It's an easy coverage and there are plenty of photo opportunities for people to fire off their AK47s etc., at non-existent enemies.
Makes good TV news and the uncritical and uneducated (in warfare) can digest it and have a feeling of awe at both the firepower and the bravery of those firing at nothing.

Africa, on the other hand, (in parts) is difficult to get to, doesn't have decent hotels near the fighting, is uncomfortably humid in a lot of places and, to be brutally frank, not many people are interested anyway.

You've got to think this is changing at least a little. After all, there has been consistent coverage of the situation in Mali now for the last month.
