Diversity: quality of being different and varied (Collins Dictionary)

Can someone explain to me how for example 10 billionaire businessmen each owning a newspaper is an example of media diversity?
1) What if, due to them belonging to the same social structure, they regularly meet for drinks and chat. How would this contribute to their diverse media policy?
2) And it is quite obvious that their only aim is competitiveness in business, not necessarily on social policy. On the latter it may not be improbable to find therefore, that they all concur, and this concurrence would not necessarily be in the best interest of the general population, but of theirs.
