SSAA Press Release:

SSAA NSW Calls On Radio Station 2GB To Apologise To Firearm Owners

SSAA NSW Executive Director Diana Melham has called on radio station 2GB to apologise to law abiding firearm owners for comments made on the Sunday Nights program hosted by The Reverend Bill Crews.

Ms Melham says that Revered Crews’ comments were inaccurate, insulting and inflammatory and will be condemned by the 200,000 licensed, law abiding firearm owners in New South Wales.

“Mr Crews’ assertion that licensed, law abiding firearm owners suffer from some kind of ‘sexual sickness’ are deeply offensive to firearm owners who are taking part in a completely legal activity.”

“SSAA NSW represents close to 50,000 members throughout New South Wales - and we will be encouraging our members to contact 2GB and ask for an apology from the Station.”

“The fact that Mr Crews’ program is one of the poorest rating shows on 2GB is no excuse for him to put forward these intolerant views about honest, law abiding firearm owners who come from all walks of life.”

Ms Melham said that there has been a renewed interest in the safe, fun and unique range of shooting sports over the past 10 years as more people try it for themselves.

“People applying for a firearms licence in NSW are required to undergo a comprehensive NSW Police background check, and anyone with a criminal history – including sexual based offences – would not be granted a licence,” said Ms Melham.

“If Mr Crews would like to educate himself about the shooting sports, we would encourage him to visit a Range and speak with the broad cross-section of members who take part in our great sport.
