Not the same, the friends and relatives don't usually know who the murderer was, however the victim often did.

I think that we're getting off the track here, I was talking about forgiveness via the Confessional.
Catholic ethics includes forgiveness of sin, be it child abuse or murder, infanticide, fratricide or even regicide.
The ethics of the State in regard to the same crimes does not include forgiveness so however misplaced such forgiveness may be, in some cases by the Church, murderers are forgiven and provided such information comes to a priest in Confession he will not report the matter.

wow. evidence has emerged that Police and the Church formulated an MOU which would have given the church permission to withhold evidence of paedophile activity.
