Seems to me that one of the outcomes of the present state of affairs in Iraq etc is that the Kurds in Iraq will be making a very strong case for outright independence, in light of the fact that they were the only coherent force on the ground to resist the noslaught of ISIS/IS/whatever they call themselves.

Also given that arms are being diretly supplied to the Kurds, it will be hard for western powers to deny this argument. This will make things really sticky for the Turks, for one, but also the Iranians will be unahppy about this, not to mention the Iragi Shia-dominated government.
