Indeed, I agree. A few middle eastern parallels come to mind. On the local front, assimilation could be successful.

I was just reflecting on the different perceptions of homosexuality by members of different groups within our ever increasingly multicultural society.

A shame that the rabid bigot Cory Bernardi hasn't learnt his lesson from last year, resorting to offensive fallacious arguments and outright lies to make his point.

Sarah Hanson-Young wants Cory Bernardi disendorsed over bestiality comments

Quote

There are calls for Conservative Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi to be disendorsed after he once again linked same-sex marriage to polygamy and bestiality.

Turnbull picks up on the slippery slope fallacy:

Malcolm Turnbull said:

I think his remarks obviously represent his personal views but they create a lot offense with same-sex couples. A lot of offense. Particularly suggesting that if same sex marriage were deemed lawful it would lead to bestiality.

The thing that has got me laughing oh so hard, is that the PAL was set up specifically to troll the gullible Senator Bernardi.

Perchance and perhaps Senator Bernardi read this or similar:

Quote

As Brown and Singer write: “We hold that the dominant ethic is indefensible because it focuses only on human beings and on human beings who are living now, leaving out the interests of others who are not of our species, or not of our generation.”[36] Elsewhere, they equate humans with animals:

The revolutionary element in Green ethics is its challenge to us to see ourselves in universal terms ... I must take into account the interests of others, on the same footing as my own. This is true, whether these others are Victorians or Queenslanders, Australians or Rwandans, or even the nonhuman animals whose habitat is destroyed when a forest is destroyed.[37]

What is revolutionary about this statement is not that the interests of another should be considered in an ethical judgment. Judeo-Christian belief extols consideration of others, as does Kant’s Golden Rule. Burke wrote of society being a compact across generations. What is revolutionary is the equation of humans and animals.

Peter Singer expands these notions in his other works on animal liberation. He charges that humans are guilty of “speciesism”, that is, preferring their own species over all others. It leads him to argue in favour of infanticide and doctor-assisted suicide on one hand; and bestiality on the other, provided there is mutual consent![38]

You're kidding. You think that there's some conspiracy to legalise marriage to animals, as Bernardi states? What a laugh.

Why is it a laugh?

The Greens think that it is right, that it is a denial of specieism.

Is bestiality any more unnatural than homosexuality?

In fact it may well be quite natural if confined to opposite sexes.

It wouldnt surprised me if he did. Its full of the usual bullshit that right wing assholes like to spout.

Just one thing those rodders, How does an animal give consent?

Because its a bullshit strawman argument that noone is actually trying to propose, except right wing assholes.

No they dont. You really want them to think that, but I think thats just a bit of a cover, and secretly you hope the greens get in and pass these laws and then you can sally the sheep can finally live free and be together in the pasture and you will be able to express yourself as you want to.

Yes. Homosexuality occurs in nature. Interspecies sexual couplings tend not to.

Well, dogs don't object to mounting women and cane toads will have a go at anything, so I suppose that that was what was in Singers mind when he stipulated that such couplings had to be consensual.

The fact that homosexuality occurs in nature doesn't mean that it is natural whereas inter species coupling would seem to be a means of natural selection that no longer bears fruit, very close species can have fruitful intercourse such as horses and donkeys.

It's not natural as the orificia have different uses, as intended by nature, therefore any practice, in this regard, that is not intended by nature is therefore not natural.

Some motorists drive the wrong way up 'One Way' streets but that doesn't make it right.
