Just a brief post as I'm out of Sydney at the moment.

I saw this in today's news and thought it was rather funny. Ricky Gervais decided to throw caution to the wind and tell it how he sees it on the state of Hollywood.

His speech included such gems as:

  • “Seems like everything this year was three dimensional. Except the characters in The Tourist.”
  • “Nothing for Sex & The City Two. No, I was sure the Golden Globe for special effects would go to the team that aired that poster. Great job. Girls! We know how old you are! I saw one of you in an episode of Bonanza.”
  • “Also not nominated I Love You, Phillip Morris. Um, Jim Carrey and Ewan MacGregor, two heterosexual actors pretending to be gay. Sort of the complete opposite of some famous Scientologists, then.”
  • “Congratulations to Hugh Hefner who’s getting married at the age of 84 to 24-year-old beauty Crystal Harris. When she was asked why she was marrying him, she said ‘cause he lied about his age. He told me he was 94.’ Oh come on. Don’t worry, hold out. Just don’t look at it when you touch it.”
  • Introducing Bruce Willis: "Ashton Kutcher's Dad!"

A grotesque exposition of self congratulation exposed for what it is in all its empty glory. Well done Gervais.

And in response to a later reply below regarding the apparent inability of Americans to understand British and Australian humour; the Americans have great difficulty with irony. They just don't do irony well. Perhaps because they've had too little experience of defeat and the humility that can engender.

Seriuosly, good on Gervais for taking them all down a peg or two. Holywood lives in its own bubble of peurile pageantry - Gervais basically told them what the rest of the world actually thinks.

Will have to watch that fast show link when I'm not at work. God I love the Fast Show.

Also, if you want your emotes to show up properly, you need a space between them. I fixed your post :)

Oh also, you can embed youtube videos, just use the media tags around your link.

*edit* I don't usually embed vids, as this places extra load on servers, and while it's lovely to watch them in the 'forum', I prefer to make what ever small reductions to carbon footprints add up to bigger savings... I'm just saying... :rolleyes:

Hehe. It doesn't put greater load on this server though - it's just an iframe. It's also better from a green perspective than having readers load an entirely new page to view the vid, no? :P

Was thinking more about two servers carrying the same data, the original has the data stored already, and will decrease its FP over time, the new one has to play catch-up :unsure:

The new server still has to cahce the iframe and store it and send the http requests etc., etc.. - in the end, it's six of one and half a ranga of the other :rolleyes:

Not to continue the derail.. but I'm confused :P

So if it's embedded in a post, this server does nothing at all. All requests go to the youtube server via the iframe. It's the same as viewing the video over there, isn't it?

Yes, but all requests go via your server and it still has to serve up the re-served youchoob data, otherwise you'd have a direct link to the yoochoob server and that would like saying to the local thieves bureau, Here you go lads, here are the keys, go for it!!! <img class="bbc_emoticon" alt=":blink:" src="http://dailywire.com.au/public/style_emoticons/default/blink.gif"><br>

Were you using the RTE editor by any chance? I just turned it off because it doesn't work properly with the blog section.
